Nestled in the breathtaking Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, our farm invites you to step back in time and experience the charm of nostalgic farm life. Whether you include paddling pristine Lake Huron in kayak or canoe, exploring gravel roads and trails, or enjoying the company of our friendly chickens. Sweet Winds offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and heartfelt hospitality. Relax under the stars, wish upon a star, get lucky with northern lights, and gather around a campfire for a cheerful cookout. In winter, enjoy ice fishing on the frozen lakes, embark on snowshoes or skies, or hit the snowmobile trails. Plus, immerse yourself in the creativity of painting, photography, or indulge in journal writing and reading with the sights and sounds of nature as your muse. If you enjoy birding, don't miss our spring and fall bird migrations as well deep winter birding searching for the Snowy Owls.

Bring your snowshoes and cross country skis. There are wonderful places to explore near the frozen the lake and inland both marked and unmarked trails. The farm is compromised of 10 acres with areas to explore. You can also use the farm as a base for downhill skiing in Canada and below the bridge, drive times about an hour -1.5 hrs.

Jump on trail #47 just down the road to access the UP snowmobiling network. Our round about driveway is plowed to accommodate easy access for trailers. Ample parking.

Visit the regional attractions. Swimming and paddling are favorites. Eating at the local waterfront establishments. Art shows, classes at Hessel School House, shop local, boating, hikes on nature preserves, stargazing, gravel bike riding from farm, read a book in a lounge chair, watch the birds, paint, journal, croquet, campfire, outdoor grilling.

Fall is a delightful time and a favorite for those who love cool nights and warm days. It is a quiet time with sites of bird migration, fall mushrooms, hiking, fishing and hunting. Day trip to see Tahquemenon Falls or Drummond Islands gorgeous colors.

Spring time at Sweet Winds is truly a treasure to behold. If spring is favorite time of year, we highly recommend the Upper Peninsula. If you are from down state, the UP is generally lags two weeks behind in growth offering a unique glimpse of new life. It's your chance to chase spring, birds, wildflowers, morel mushrooms, and embark on foraging adventures. The sounds of spring compose a symphony of frog choruses, mating calls, and the rustle of sweet winds in the spruce. The air is a fresh renewal. Truly a sensory delight.

A Townie, Ann Arborite, and Yooper at heart Jessie is all about community and building a sustainable future. Jessie is an avid outdoor enthusiast, paddler, artist, foodie, and science nerd. Founder of the Les Cheneaux Islands Woods and Water Ecotours (since, new owners), ecologist, conservationist and presently a physical therapist assistant with a mission to blend living within the landscape with the practice of sustainable farming. She currently resides in her hometown of Ann Arbor where permaculture and support of local farming is booming. Her Yooper son is learning the ways of a blended lifestyle being both a city and country mouse.

Amy is the force behind the scenes, bring the farm’s beauty to life for every guest. Born and raised in the Upper Peninsula, she’s an artist and a creator, with a can-do spirit that shines through everything she does. Amy and her son are the chicken wranglers, and during the months when the chickens are laying they love to share eggs with guests. Need a photographer? She’s got you covered. And, if you need anything during your farm stay, just ask! If you have any other questions, she’ll likely have experience to share sound advice. She is a grandma, mom and wife.

Cedarville and Hessel, historic Upper Peninsula port towns with marinas and waterfront vistas, have unique gift and craft-making shops, galleries, an outfitter and guide service, boat building school, Culinary School and places to eat and kick-back within walking distance from docks.
